The last twelve to eighteen months has been tough going for investment markets, super funds and their members.
With all the focus on investment performance, you might think you can't do much about it - that it's up to others, like us (your super fund), to sort it out. But while we play an important role, you have more control than you might think.
Only you can decide what you contribute to your super, in most cases you can contribute between 2% to 10% into the PSS or you can choose not to contribute at all. You may even be eligible for the government's super co-contribution.
We're always looking for new ways to help you understand and take control of your super - here are some of the new mediums we're using in 2009:
We know you like to get information online so this year, for the first time, we've created a new interactive online Annual Report called the facts in focus. It works like a website and gives you easy to understand information on how the PSS works, planning for the future and investment performance.
We've also designed an online member statement guide, which helps you understand your annual member statement and gives you useful information on how we calculate your super benefit.
There's lots of great information on super in the media. We encourage you to find out as much as you can - it will help you plan for your future, no matter what your age.
A new media outlet on the scene is evoTV, an online TV portal that gives you the latest news from the finance industry and government leaders. It's free to register and you'll get a daily news update - it's an easy way to see and hear from the people who influence your financial future.
Recently, our CEO, Lochiel Crafter spoke to evoTV about some of the things that make the PSS different to other funds, the global financial crisis and the role ARIA plays in helping you secure your financial future.
As you know, we can't give you financial advice - we encourage you to speak to a financial advisor. Remember, the better informed you are when you see a financial advisor, the better the results will be (see getting advice tips from the Australian Securities and Investments Commission).
We hope you find our new information sources useful in taking more control of your super.
