The following information is for any member of the PSS, either a contributor, pensioner or preserved benefit member, or a person who is married to a member, who is in the process of divorcing or separating.

Are there any fees?

A fee of $150 is payable for the preparation of a response for superannuation information made in accordance with the Family Law legislation. If you request that information be prepared for more than one circumstance, then an additional fee of $150 will apply to each additional response. The fee can be paid by cheque, money order, or credit card (visa, mastercard, and bankcard). The appropriate payment should accompany the request for information, otherwise the request will be returned without the desired information.

The fee of $150 simply covers the cost of the administration work required to respond to requests for information.

What is the method for valuing PSS benefits?

To value PSS for Family Law purposes, specific factors and methods have been approved by the Attorney General.

These specific factors and methods recognise the unique benefit design of the PSS and are applicable from 8 March 2004. The factors and methods are contained in an instrument called Family Law (Superannuation) (Methods and Factors for Valuing Particular Superannuation Interests) Approval 2003.
